With this devastating technological boom, we as consumers get carried
away with the new features that they offer, being a car, phone or any other
electric device that connects to the internet, where we would not think for a
minute about the safety as will this secure our data privacy?
Going through few things what came to my mind and what I have
experienced in the recent past was
- Some applications what I used trying to access my
webcam where there was no need of a web cam requirement what’s so ever.
- Smart TV’s uses digital camera & activated voice
commands, without a proper encryption a hacker could hear what all the
conversations and see all what you do.
- Web pages you browsed call you withing the next 24
hours or connect to you via social media.
Do we really consider the risk aspect till we are being robbed?
United Kingdom brought the GDPR in to affect from the 1st of
January 2021.
What is the UK GDPR?
I would like to elaborate a recent incident I faced. As I have moved to
the UK recently, I was looking to purchase a broadband network to my home, and
was browsing on few network providers comparing the prices and there offers. Couple
of days later if I remember correctly, I got a call from a popular network
provider stating that I had browsed their web for a broadband service and they
can offer me a great deal for it. As I remember correctly, I had not shared any
personal details rather than my post code and the building number. It blew me
away for some time to regather myself what additional details I had given to
receive this call. Fascinating but this is a fact that still they have got my
details from some where to connect.
But how many of us just give a way detail to the cyber blindly? Or do they take it anyway?
With all these technological improvements they are creating algorithms
to monitor are trends and behaviors and share similar details via social media or
mail.
With a simple purchase of a modern smart phone by agreeing to the terms
and conditions we then and there we loose are privacy. Modern tracking systems Sat
nav, maps and even key words what we speak can be used to market their products
by these giant companies in various ways.
Scary but truly below is a documentary movie that we need to watch to
understand what really hidden behind the technology we use today.
But can we resist it? Nor avoid it?
